What is shaping?
Shaping is the method we use to manage your download quota. Shaping only applies to our ADSL1 and ADSL2+ services (SOHO and Business Plans). Business has two tiers of shaping and is not ever shaped lower than 128k. SOHO plans have one tier of shaping and are shaped to 72k once your quota is reached.
When will I be shaped?
SOHO Plans - When you have reached your monthly quota on your OnPeak, Off Peak or Peering zones you will be shaped to a lower speed for that particular zone.

Off Peak - Between 20:00:00 - 03:59:59 (Monday to Friday), All Weekend (Friday 20:00:00 - Monday 03:59:59)
Business Plans - When you have reached your monthly quota you will be shaped to a lower speed for all zones.
Why are there two tiers of shaping for Business Plans?
We have introduced two tiers of shaping because we believe that your business should not be heavily penalised for exceeding you quota. Once you have reached your first quota our ADSL2+ plans only shape your download speed to 512k. Many other ISPs will shape your download speed to 64k or 72k. Our Business ADSL2+ plans shape to a minimum of 128k which means you will still be able to surf and download email at double the speed of most other ISP shaped plans.
Our better shaping means you can actually download more on a Highway 1 plan when compared to our competitors equivalent plans.
What is a Peering quota?
Peering quota refers to data downloaded from the Highway 1 Peering Zone. This is data that is downloaded from other ISPs connected directly with Highway 1. (This data does not go over the internet.) Read more on the Peering Zone.
What is an Anytime quota?
Anytime quota is available to Business plans and refers to downloads made from the internet. Effectively all sites that sit outside of the Highway 1 network. For example. Facebook, Telstra, NineMSN, Sourceforge, SMH, News, NASA. This quota is available any time of the day or night. Unlike SOHO plans it does not have on peak and off peak periods.
When do I get unshaped?
Shaping will be removed and your quota will be reset on the 1st of each calendar month.
Can I pay for excess and not get shaped?
Yes, we can provide you an unshaped ADSL1 or ADSL2+ account. Once your quota is reached you will be charged $9.90 per GB. Please contact our Service Desk to arrange this option.
