What is unique about CityEthernet?

What does the service include?

Installation by way of presentation as Ethernet to your office (no other hidden charges). We require 2RU at your office for our equipment.

Are there any additional charges?

For a 24 month contract setup = $1500.00

For a 36 month contract setup = $0.00

Is this a fibre optic service?

Yes. The street level network is fibre optic. Connections are converted into Ethernet when they are presented at your premises.

Do you provide Dark Fibre (10GBs etc)?

Yes, this is priced on application. Please provide the two addresses you wish to connect.

Speeds

How much faster is this product than DSL?

A typical ADSL2+ modem syncs at between 6-10Mbps. This service will connect at 100Mbps. Typical latency is reduced from 30ms to less than 5ms. Equivalent of dialup to dsl all over again.

Can you guarantee a speed to a website, ftp server etc? What throughput can I expect?

No, this is dependent on many factors out of our control, particularly the capacity of the server at the other end. To many services on the internet you will exceed their capacity to deliver at this speed when connecting at 100Mbps.

Is this a contended service?

Yes. The internet and peering is contended, connectivity to Highway 1 is 1:1. The service is designed for businesses who require bursts of data at high speeds but not a sustained throughput.

Can I purchase a guaranteed 1:1 internet service?

We can provide an uncontended (1:1) internet service to you. This costs $250/Per Mbps. Total package is priced upon application.

Can I get the service outside the immediate "green" zone?

Yes. These services are priced on application.

Can I get higher speeds than 100Mbps?

Yes. We offer a 1Gbps service. Price available on application.

Can I get a speed between 10 and 100Mbps?

No. We are only providing services at 10Mbps, 100Mbps and 1Gbps at this time.

Data

Is the quoted data allowance only for downloads? Are uploads free?

The quoted data allowance is a combined allowance for both downloads and uploads. For example, if you had a downloaded 50GB and uploaded 20GB then your monthly internet use would be 70GB.

What is the excess charge?

When you exceed your allocated quota you will receive a charge of $27.50 per GB. For comparison this equates to $0.0026c (quarter of 1 cent) per Mb.

Will I get notified if I reach my quota?

Yes, you will receive a notification when you have reached your quota. Traffic usage is also available on our website. (Delayed by up to 60 minutes)

What does Peering mean?

This is traffic that comes from the PIPE (NSW, VIC, QLD) or WAIX (WA) networks. This content changes but currently includes Google (YouTube, Google Apps, Gmail, Maps etc), Akamai (Microsoft, Adobe), SourceForge, Universities, BitGravity Streaming Video and much more.

What does Unmetered Peering mean?

You may download and upload as much as you require. This is subject to our acceptable use policy.

Can I buy more prepaid internet data?

Yes. Blocks of 10GB = $99.00. This must be purchased before use and is not retrospective.

Can we just get a point to point service without internet? Just connect me to a data centre or another office?

Yes. This is priced upon application.

Service and Provisioning

How many IPs do you provide with this service?

We provide you with a static non-portable /30 (1 Usable) IP. More are available for purchase if you require them.

Can we use our existing DSL modem?

No you will need to purchase a router. We recommend any ethernet based router capable of 100Mbps traffic. Juniper SRX100, or Cisco 2821. See the application form for more information.

Is this service firewalled?

No, we highly recommend you obtain a router with firewall capabilities.

Can Highway 1 manage the router for me?

Yes, for a monthly fee of $300.00 we can provide 5x7 (6hr response, 2 cumulative hours per month) to manage each router.

Can I put voice over this service?

Yes. We can provide you with a voice service or you can use another provider.

Can I run a VLAN over this service?

Yes, QinQ is supported

What is the target availability for this product?

99.95%

Is there a 12 month contract available?

No. Not at this time.
