Broadband Speeds Explained
ADSL1 was the first broadband internet which delivered far more data with far higher speed than Dialup. ADSL1 is available in a range of plans with download speeds of up to 8Mbps.
ADSL2+ is the new standard of ADSL using new technology to deliver theoretical maximum download speeds of up to 20Mbps and upload speeds of up to 892kbps. All ADSL2+ plans have the similar speeds; the variable is the data quota you need. Naked ADSL2+ uses ADSL2+ technology and frees you up if you don't need a fixed phone.
A majority of ADSL2+ customers will connect at between 6Mbps and 15Mbps. The actual speed that you experience will be based several factors, including how far you are from the exchange, the quality of your phone line, the broadband hardware you use and the speed of the website you connect to.

What is Peering Quota?
Peering Quota is an extra data quota you can access if others are in our ISP partner network or peer group. Our peer group is WAIX in WA and PIPE everywhere else in Australia. If the sites or people you access are in our peer group, it's extra data for you at no extra cost. Check here to see what sites are in our ISP partner network.
What is Freeway Quota?
Freeway Quota is free data you can access if others are on Highway1. If your colleagues or interstate offices are on Highway 1, you won't be charged for the data you exchange. If they're on Highway1, it's free.
How does 2 tier shaping work?
Depending on your ISP, when you exceed your data quota, you will either pay a fee for the extra data or your internet speed is reduced or 'shaped'. With most ISPs, this shaping is quite severe e.g. from 8 or 20 mbps down to 64kbps over quota. At Highway 1 there are no excess fees and we use a gentle shaping model with 2 tiers, at 512 and 128kbps, each with extra quota. Compared to others, with Highway 1, you'll enjoy at least twice the speed over quota. To find our more visit our shaping FAQ
Do I need to be a registered business or have an ABN to get a Highway 1 Business plan?
No, anyone can get a Highway 1 Business plan. You can use it for personal and family use if you want.

Off Peak Quota is an extra data quota you can access after hours. Because our network serves mainly businesses, it's pretty quiet after hours. We'd like you to benefit from this, with extra quota for e.g. off-site backups, transfers of very large files, or even extra private or family use. If it's after hours it's extra data for you at no extra cost. Off peak is 8pm-4am your local time anywhere in Australia.
